I remember seeing Felix at the Regent Theatre in South Yarra, Vic, Australia in the late 1940s-1950s. How funny watching them through the eyes of an adult in 2009. We thought they were so funny way back then. What was it he was drinking hahahahaha
Because most of these cartoons began as vignettes played before the main feature at movie theaters–mostly to adult crowds. When these cartoons moved to television, they were dumbed-down to appeal to kids. TV is where cartoons lost their adult edge and became little more than a marketing tool to sell toys and cereals. They got simple and dumb and cheap and stigmatized as kid’s fair.
ur absolutely right pbanta62, over the years cartoons have been getting more and more dumbed down. i hate it when it people say cartoons are only for kids, that’s why im glad people like matt groening created a show like the simpsons to show that it could be an adult medium.

It’s weird… the animation of the non-character objects is actually more interesting than that of the star.
